Father and stepfather Dusty and Brad join forces to make Christmastime perfect for the children. Their newfound partnership soon gets put to the test when Dusty's old-school, macho dad and Brad's gentle father arrive to turn the holiday upside down. After a sudden change in plans, the four men decide to take the kids to a luxury resort for a fun-filled getaway that turns into a hilarious and chaotic adventure.
Daddy's Home 2 is a formulaic holiday comedy sequel that adds little to its predecessor. The plot is predictable and recycled, leaning on tired fish-out-of-water and generational clash tropes. Acting is serviceable with Mel Gibson and John Lithgow providing some entertainment value as the grandfathers, elevating the ensemble slightly. Cinematography is unremarkable, functional at best for a mainstream comedy. Novelty is very low — it's a by-the-numbers sequel with a Christmas makeover, offering nothing distinctive in conception or voice. The ending wraps up with expected heartwarming resolutions that feel entirely unearned given the chaotic setup.
