Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies, and dark new forces at play.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a visually competent but narratively muddled sequel. The plot struggles to develop its themes of prejudice and belonging with any real depth, leaning on convenient contrivances and a rushed third act. Angelina Jolie remains a commanding screen presence and Michelle Pfeiffer brings menace to her villain role, keeping the acting above average. The cinematography offers lush fantasy visuals but rarely transcends standard blockbuster polish. As a sequel to a live-action remake, novelty is limited — it recycles familiar fairy-tale war tropes without a distinctive voice. The ending is overly tidy and emotionally unearned, resolving complex tensions too neatly.
