Christmas Vacation 2000 (1999)

Superenalotto winner Pasquale Esposito with his family, two penniless students from Emilia and the Colombo and Covelli families, who accidentally rent the same chalet, will spend the Christmas holidays in Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The Quartile Take

Christmas Vacation 2000 is a late-era cinepanettone entry following the well-worn formula of the Italian holiday comedy genre: mismatched social classes, slapstick mishaps, and regional stereotypes set against a picturesque winter backdrop. The plot is entirely formulaic, recycling the same ensemble collision setup the series has used repeatedly. Acting is adequate for the genre's broad comedic demands but nothing remarkable. Cinematography is competent TV-movie level work with Cortina providing some scenic value. Novelty is low as it is a textbook cinepanettone with no distinguishing creative voice. The ending resolves predictably with reconciliation and holiday cheer. A solidly mediocre genre entry consistent with its modest reputation.
