Peter is thrilled that his Grandpa is coming to live with his family. That is, until Grandpa moves into Peter's room, forcing him upstairs into the creepy attic. And though he loves his Grandpa, he wants his room back - so he has no choice but to declare war.
The War with Grandpa is a formulaic family comedy with a thin, predictable premise — a kid pranks his grandpa to reclaim his bedroom. The plot hits every expected beat with no surprises, and the prank escalation structure feels recycled from similar family comedies. Robert De Niro's presence elevates the acting above what the script deserves, and the ensemble (including Uma Thurman and Rob Riggle) adds some charm, keeping that category slightly above average. Cinematography is functional and uninspired, typical of mid-budget family fare. Novelty is low given the derivative concept. The ending wraps up predictably but with enough warmth to satisfy its target audience.
