The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

When Clara’s mother leaves her a mysterious gift, she embarks on a journey to four secret realms—where she discovers her greatest strength could change the world.

The Quartile Take

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is visually sumptuous with lavish production design and costume work that genuinely dazzles, earning strong marks for cinematography. However, the plot is a thin, predictable fairy-tale retread with a telegraphed twist villain and underdeveloped world-building that fails to capitalize on its rich source material. The ensemble cast (Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman) performs adequately but is let down by thin characterization. The film offers little that feels distinctive—it borrows heavily from Alice in Wonderland-style fantasy templates—and the resolution feels rushed and emotionally unsatisfying.
