Home Again (2017)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Life for a single mom in Los Angeles takes an unexpected turn when she allows three young guys to move in with her.

The Quartile Take

Home Again is a pleasant but formulaic romantic comedy-drama that doesn't stray far from genre conventions. The premise of a single mother in LA taking in three aspiring filmmakers has some charm, but the plot meanders without strong dramatic stakes and resolves predictably. Reese Witherspoon elevates the material with a warm, grounded performance, and the supporting cast is serviceable. The LA cinematography is glossy and appealing but unremarkable. The concept feels somewhat recycled from classic fish-out-of-water romcoms with little new to say. The ending wraps up too neatly without earning its emotional payoff.
