Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp couldn't anticipate that they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope of rescue, Tami must now find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.
Adrift is a competent survival-at-sea drama elevated significantly by its stunning ocean cinematography and non-linear storytelling structure. The visuals of the Pacific and the storm sequences are genuinely impressive. However, the survival narrative follows fairly well-trodden territory, and while Shailene Woodley delivers a committed performance, the supporting cast has limited screen time. The ending's twist (Richard's fate) adds emotional weight but may feel manipulative to some viewers. Overall a solid but not particularly distinctive entry in the survival genre.
