A young girl is kidnapped during a powerful storm. Her mother joins forces with her mysterious neighbour to set off in pursuit of the kidnapper. Their journey will test their limits and expose the dark secrets of their past.
Lou is a competent but formulaic action thriller that leans heavily on familiar tropes: the mysterious loner with a dark past, a kidnapped child, and a stormy Pacific Northwest backdrop. Allison Janney brings genuine presence and physicality to the lead role, elevating the material, and the rain-soaked forest setting is reasonably well-shot. However, the plot relies on well-worn genre conventions and predictable twists, the ending feels rushed and unsatisfying, and the film offers little that distinguishes it from similar fare in the 'skilled veteran protector' subgenre.
