A group of misfits encounter a young Yeti named Everest, and they set off to reunite the magical creature with his family on the mountain of his namesake.
Abominable is a visually stunning animated film with genuinely beautiful landscapes and magical sequences — particularly the nature-magic set pieces — that elevate it well above average cinematographically. The story, however, follows a fairly familiar 'help the magical creature get home' template with predictable beats and a by-the-numbers villain. Voice performances are warm and competent but unremarkable. The ending is emotionally satisfying but unsurprising. Novelty suffers from the derivative premise, though the Chinese cultural setting and imagery give it some distinction.
