The Quartile Take

Clinical is a serviceable but largely forgettable Netflix psychological thriller that fails to distinguish itself in a crowded genre. The plot leans heavily on familiar tropes — the traumatized professional, the mysterious patient with a dark secret — and telegraphs its twists well in advance, undermining the tension it tries to build. The acting, particularly from Vinessa Shaw, is competent and elevates the material somewhat, but supporting performances are uneven. Cinematography is functional and relies on standard horror-thriller visual language without memorable imagery or distinctive style. The film offers little novelty in concept or execution, recycling well-worn psychological horror beats. The ending attempts a twist that feels undercooked and fails to deliver a satisfying payoff, leaving the narrative feeling hollow. Overall it sits comfortably in mediocre territory, consistent with its modest reputation.
