A mother looks to escape her abusive past by moving to a new town where she befriends another mother, who grows suspicious of her.
Inconceivable (2017) is a fairly generic domestic thriller that follows well-worn genre conventions without distinguishing itself in any meaningful way. The plot relies on familiar tropes of the suspicious new friend and hidden dark past, executed without particular flair. The acting, featuring Nicolas Cage and Gina Gershon, is serviceable but uneven, with Cage delivering one of his more subdued performances that still feels miscast. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of mid-budget thriller fare. The film offers little novelty, recycling storylines seen in countless similar domestic suspense films. The ending follows predictable thriller conventions without a satisfying or surprising payoff.
