Black Adam (2022)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

The Quartile Take

Black Adam is a largely formulaic DCEU entry that struggles to distinguish itself despite the appeal of its lead character. The plot follows a predictable arc of reluctant hero discovering their purpose, with underdeveloped antagonists and a rushed climax. Dwayne Johnson brings charisma but limited range to the role, while the supporting Justice Society members feel thinly written. Cinematography is serviceable with competent action staging but nothing visually distinctive. The film offers little novelty — it recycles familiar superhero origin beats and the anti-hero framing never fully commits to challenging the genre. The ending, including the mid-credits Superman cameo, feels more like franchise setup than satisfying resolution.
