Cube 2: Hypercube (2002)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

Eight strangers awaken with no memory, in a puzzling cube-shaped room where the laws of physics do not always apply.

The Quartile Take

Cube 2: Hypercube attempts to expand on the original's concept by introducing fourth-dimensional physics and geometry, which gives it a modest novelty boost over a purely formulaic sequel. However, the plot is weaker than the original—the mystery feels less coherent and the character motivations are thin. Acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with most characters serving as little more than puzzle fodder. Cinematography is functional but bland, lacking the oppressive tension the original achieved with its colored lighting and tight framing. The ending tries for a conspiracy-thriller twist but feels rushed and unsatisfying, undermining what little tension had been built.
