A woman struggles to recover from a brutal attack by setting out on a mission for revenge.
Jodie Foster delivers a commanding, nuanced performance as a radio host turned vigilante, elevating what is otherwise a familiar rape-and-revenge thriller framework. The plot follows well-trodden genre territory with few surprises, and the NYC setting, while atmospheric, doesn't distinguish the cinematography significantly beyond competent genre work. The ending attempts moral ambiguity but ultimately hedges its bets in a way that feels slightly unsatisfying. Foster's work and Terrence Howard's solid supporting turn are the film's genuine strengths, but the overall conception is too derivative of genre predecessors to earn strong novelty marks.
