Two female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, compete to swindle a naïve tech prodigy out of his fortune. A remake of the 1988 comedy "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."
The Hustle is a gender-swapped remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which itself was a remake of Bedtime Story. The premise offers little new ground — the con artist rivalry and twist ending follow familiar beats without meaningful reinvention. Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson have moments of chemistry and commit to their roles, elevating the material somewhat, but the script doesn't give them enough to work with. Visually it's competent but unremarkable, leaning on the French Riviera backdrop without doing much cinematically interesting with it. The ending recycles the twist from its predecessors, so even viewers unfamiliar with the originals may find it telegraphed. A watchable but largely forgettable comedy that coasts on its leads.
