The Night Comes For Us is a brutally visceral Indonesian action film that earns its reputation primarily through its extraordinary, relentless combat choreography and staggering levels of gore. The plot is fairly thin and functional — a redemption arc wrapped around an excuse for carnage — earning a below-average score there. Acting is serviceable with charismatic leads like Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais elevating genre material. Cinematography is competent and gritty, effectively staging the mayhem. Its novelty lies in the sheer extremity and ambition of its action sequences, which push the genre to near-absurd limits and feel genuinely distinct from Hollywood and even most Asian action fare. The ending delivers satisfying if expected genre closure without major surprise.
