Dr. Lily Houghton enlists the aid of wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff to take her down the Amazon in his dilapidated boat. Together, they search for an ancient tree that holds the power to heal – a discovery that will change the future of medicine.
Jungle Cruise is a breezy, watchable adventure romp built on a familiar template — essentially a Pirates of the Caribbean-style theme-park adaptation with a treasure-hunt plot. The story hits well-worn beats (reluctant duo, ancient curse, race against villains) without much originality or surprise, and the third-act reveals feel contrived. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt share genuine chemistry and elevate the material above its script, making the acting a relative highlight. Cinematography is competent blockbuster work — lush jungle visuals but nothing particularly distinctive or memorable. Novelty is low; despite its charming leads, the film recycles heavily from Pirates and similar adventure films with little distinctive voice. The ending wraps up too neatly with CGI-heavy spectacle that undermines emotional stakes, landing below average for the genre.
