When nerdy high schooler Dani finally attracts the interest of her longtime crush, she lands in the cross hairs of his ex, a social media celebrity.
#realityhigh is a formulaic teen comedy that follows a well-worn underdog-gets-the-guy narrative with a social media twist that feels superficial rather than genuinely insightful. The plot hits every expected beat without surprise, the acting is competent but unremarkable from a largely inexperienced cast, the cinematography is flat and TV-movie quality, and the social media angle — while timely for 2017 — is handled too shallowly to distinguish the film from countless other high school rom-coms. The ending resolves predictably with little earned emotional payoff.
