The Quartile Take

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a crowd-pleasing jukebox musical sequel that leans heavily into nostalgia and ABBA hits. The dual-timeline structure offers modest narrative interest, but the plot is thin and predictable, recycling much of the original's formula with diminishing returns — hence a low Novelty score. The acting is serviceable and energetic, with Lily James bringing charm to young Donna and the returning ensemble delivering expected warmth, though nothing transcends the material. Cinematography captures the sun-drenched Greek island beauty competently but without particular distinction. The ending lands with genuine emotional resonance, especially with Cher's late appearance and the bittersweet tribute to Donna, which elevates it above average despite the formulaic setup throughout.
