A harmless game of "Truth or Dare" among friends turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare.
Truth or Dare (2018) is a competent but thoroughly formulaic supernatural horror entry. The plot recycles well-worn slasher/curse mechanics without meaningful subversion, and the 'truth or dare' conceit, while initially promising, is executed with little imagination. Acting is serviceable but unimpressive across the board, with characters that remain thinly sketched horror archetypes. Cinematography is workmanlike studio horror — adequate but undistinguished, with the creepy smile effect providing mild visual interest but used repetitively. Novelty is low; the film borrows liberally from Final Destination-style death-chain narratives and teen-horror conventions without a distinctive voice. The ending attempts a dark twist that feels half-earned given the preceding narrative logic, landing as mildly surprising but unsatisfying rather than boldly provocative.
