A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.
Troll Hunter earns its cult reputation almost entirely on the strength of its concept and execution of novelty: a Norwegian found-footage mockumentary grounded in authentic folklore, bureaucratic dry wit, and surprisingly convincing creature design. The blend of Scandinavian deadpan humor with genuine monster-movie tension is genuinely one-of-a-kind. The cinematography is competent found-footage work — occasionally striking in the fjord and mountain landscapes but constrained by the format. The plot is episodic and serviceable, more a framework for troll encounters than a structured narrative. Acting is naturalistic and convincing for the mockumentary style, with Otto Jespersen's Hans being a standout deadpan performance. The ending, however, deflates rather than satisfies — the reveal of a government cover-up press conference lands flatly and the final fate of the characters feels abrupt and undercooked even by found-footage standards.
