Woody Woodpecker (2017) is a live-action/animation hybrid that recycles a very familiar 'city slicker vs. nature' premise without adding much freshness. The plot is predictable and formulaic, the acting is serviceable at best, the cinematography is competent but unremarkable for the genre, and while the classic Woody Woodpecker character has inherent nostalgia value, the film's execution feels derivative of similar fish-out-of-water comedies. The ending wraps up exactly as expected with no surprises. It lands squarely in average-to-below-average territory across the board.
