A case of mistaken identity results in unexpected romance when the most popular girl in high school and the biggest loser must come together to win over their crushes.

The Quartile Take

Sierra Burgess Is a Loser is a fairly formulaic high school rom-com that leans heavily on catfishing as its central gimmick, but the execution is uneven. The plot borrows liberally from Cyrano de Bergerac without adding much fresh perspective, and the protagonist's deceptive behavior goes largely unaddressed in a satisfying way, making the ending feel unearned and morally muddled. The acting is the film's strongest suit, with Shannon Purser bringing genuine warmth to Sierra and Noah Centineo offering charm, though character development is shallow. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of Netflix teen fare. Novelty is low given the well-worn catfishing and ugly-duckling tropes recycled without meaningful reinvention. The ending resolves conflicts too neatly given the serious ethical issues raised mid-film.
