The Quartile Take

Bad Samaritan is a reasonably entertaining thriller with a solid central hook — a burglar discovering a captive woman and being unable to convince anyone — that generates genuine tension. The plot has some clever turns early on but unravels in the third act with increasingly implausible developments and a conventional serial-killer showdown. David Tennant commits hard to his scenery-chewing villain, elevating what could have been a stock antagonist, while Robert Sheehan is likable if unremarkable as the protagonist. The cinematography is functional and workmanlike, nothing visually distinctive. The concept has some freshness — framing a thief as the reluctant hero while the villain uses digital stalking tools — but it doesn't fully exploit its premise. The ending is underwhelming and predictable, deflating much of the tension built up earlier.
