Sergeant Cruchot and his faithful comrades have been sent to the International Congress of Gendarmerie in N.Y.
The second entry in the Gendarme series follows a predictable fish-out-of-water formula as Cruchot and his bumbling colleagues navigate New York City. De Funès delivers his trademark manic energy and physical comedy, elevating the material beyond its formulaic script. The New York location photography adds some visual interest and novelty of setting, but the plot mechanics are recycled from the first film with the father-daughter dynamic and comic mishaps feeling well-worn. The ending resolves tidily but without particular wit or surprise, consistent with the series' light entertainment ambitions. A competent, enjoyable but derivative sequel.
