Unknown (2011)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A man awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one, (not even his wife), believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is.

The Quartile Take

Unknown is a competent Hitchcock-lite thriller that generates solid tension in its first half before deflating with a twist ending that feels both convoluted and unsatisfying. Liam Neeson anchors the film with his reliable presence, though the supporting cast is underused. Berlin is photographed capably but without distinctive flair. The stolen-identity premise has been well-trodden, and the film doesn't bring a fresh angle to it — the twist recontextualizes events but raises more plot holes than it resolves, leaving the ending feeling deflating rather than rewarding.
