Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
6th January 1975, in an infant nursery in Palermo (Italy), for a mysterious reason, a male nurse exchanges the labels of baby number 7 and 8. Thirty-one years later Tommaso (7) and Daniele (8) meet each other by accident.
7 and 8 is a solid Italian comedy from the popular duo Ficarra e Picone, built around a classic switched-at-birth premise with a Sicilian cultural flavor. The plot is engaging enough with decent comic momentum, and the leads bring their trademark chemistry and timing. Cinematography is fairly standard for Italian mainstream comedy of the era — competent but unremarkable. The switched-identity concept isn't particularly fresh, though Ficarra e Picone's specific voice and Palermitan setting give it some regional distinctiveness. The ending resolves things in a somewhat predictable, underwhelming fashion, leaving the film without a truly memorable payoff.
