Saving Capitalism (2017)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich meets with Americans from all walks of life as he chronicles a seismic shift in the nation's economy.

The Quartile Take

Saving Capitalism is a competent documentary adaptation of Robert Reich's book, offering an accessible but not particularly groundbreaking critique of economic inequality and the rigged system benefiting the wealthy. Reich is an engaging on-screen presence but the talking-head format and road-trip structure feel familiar. Cinematography is functional rather than inspired. The arguments are well-articulated but echo much of what Reich has said elsewhere and what similar documentaries (like Inequality for All) have covered. The ending feels somewhat inconclusive, offering broad hope without concrete resolution, which is a common weakness of advocacy documentaries.
