Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

Beneath Anna Poliatova's striking beauty lies a secret that will unleash her indelible strength and skill to become one of the world's most feared government assassins.

The Quartile Take

Luc Besson's Anna is a slick, competent spy-thriller with a female assassin premise that echoes his own Nikita and La Femme Nikita. The non-linear storytelling adds some structural flair and keeps the plot engaging with its twist-heavy narrative. Sasha Luss is serviceable in the lead, supported by Helen Mirren and Luke Evans who elevate the material. Cinematography is polished and stylish but unremarkable. The ending ties things up neatly but predictably. Novelty suffers most — the film covers well-trodden Besson territory and feels derivative of his earlier, better work, offering little that feels genuinely fresh or distinctive.
