Scared Shrekless is a fun Halloween special that leans on the charm of its established characters rather than any fresh storytelling. The anthology-within-a-special format is a decent fit, but the scary stories are fairly predictable parodies and the framing device doesn't add much depth. The voice cast delivers their usual reliable performances, keeping energy high throughout. Visually it meets DreamWorks Animation's solid standard for the era without pushing any boundaries. The ending wraps up quickly and unremarkably. Overall it's a pleasant seasonal diversion that coasts on franchise goodwill rather than genuine invention.
