A pair of high-frequency traders go up against their old boss in an effort to make millions in a fiber-optic cable deal.
The Hummingbird Project is a niche thriller about high-frequency trading that benefits enormously from committed performances, particularly Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgård in a remarkably physical and transformative role. The premise is intriguingly specific and timely, giving it modest novelty within the financial thriller genre. However, the plot loses momentum in its second half and struggles to generate consistent tension from its technical subject matter, while the cinematography is functional but unremarkable. The ending feels somewhat deflating and anticlimactic given the buildup, failing to deliver a satisfying payoff to the central conflict.
