The Quartile Take

Mortal is a Norwegian fantasy-thriller with a striking visual identity — its Norwegian landscapes and atmospheric cinematography are genuinely exceptional, lending the film a raw, elemental grandeur that elevates it above its modest budget. The premise, rooting Norse mythology in a grounded, almost found-footage-adjacent thriller aesthetic, offers a reasonably fresh angle on the superhero origin story. However, the plot is thin and meandering, struggling to sustain momentum across its runtime, and the ending feels anticlimactic and unresolved, leaving viewers without satisfying payoff. Acting is competent, with Nat Wolff doing serviceable work in the lead, though the character writing limits what performers can achieve.
