A drunken playboy stands to lose a wealthy inheritance when he falls for a woman that his family doesn't like.
This 2011 remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore classic offers little that the original didn't do better. The plot is a straightforward retread — a boozy billionaire man-child must choose between a loveless arranged marriage and genuine romance — with no meaningful updates or twists. Russell Brand's performance has its moments of charm and energy, keeping the acting from being a total loss, and Helen Mirren as the nanny adds some class. But cinematography is unremarkable and generic for a mid-budget Hollywood romcom. Novelty scores rock bottom as a fairly uninspired remake that recycles the premise without adding a distinctive voice or fresh angle. The ending is predictable and tidily resolved in the most formulaic way possible.
