Françoise has just been dumped by her husband for a much younger woman. In order to cheer her up, and to celebrate her 60th birthday, sisters Rose and Alice decide to take their mother to a resort on the tropical island of Reunion so they can relax, work on their tans, and have too many margaritas. But when Rose pays a one-night stand, Thierry, to show her mother a good time, their holiday plans start to unravel.
Dumped (2018) is a light French comedy with a familiar premise—a newly single older woman rediscovering herself on a tropical vacation, aided by well-meaning but meddling daughters. The plot is predictable, hitting standard rom-com and family comedy beats without meaningful subversion. Acting from the ensemble appears competent and warm, carrying the film's lighter moments. The Réunion Island setting offers some visual appeal, though cinematography is functional rather than distinctive. Novelty is limited; the paid-companion-for-mom subplot echoes numerous similar comedies, and the overall conception is derivative. The ending resolves tidily in expected fashion, offering little surprise or emotional resonance beyond genre conventions.
