The Quartile Take

Honor Among Thieves is a crowd-pleasing fantasy-comedy romp that largely succeeds on charm and energy. The plot is a competent heist-adventure structure with fun D&D lore integration, but it's fairly formulaic and predictable. The ensemble cast performs well with good comedic timing, though no single performance is truly exceptional. Cinematography is serviceable blockbuster fare — functional and colorful but not visually distinctive. Novelty is modest: while the film nails the tone of tabletop RPG adventuring in a way few films have, its narrative bones are standard genre fare. The ending resolves too neatly and emotionally conveniently, undercutting some of the stakes built earlier, landing below average for a film of this type.
