In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.
Premium Rush is a lean, kinetic thriller built around a simple chase premise — a bike messenger hunted across Manhattan by a corrupt cop. The plot is deliberately thin and slightly convoluted in its flashback structure without adding much depth. Joseph Gordon-Levitt commits fully to the physical role and Michael Shannon chews scenery entertainingly as the villain, lifting the acting above average. The cinematography makes solid use of NYC locations with some inventive overhead and tracking shots that capture the chaos of urban cycling. Its novelty lies in the genuinely unusual setting and premise — a feature-length bicycle chase is a rare enough concept — though it doesn't transcend its genre. The ending is functional but unremarkable, tying things up tidily without much impact or surprise.
