An ex-cop turned con threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The NYPD dispatch a female police psychologist to talk him down. However, unbeknownst to the police on the scene, the suicide attempt is a cover for the biggest diamond heist ever pulled.
Man on a Ledge is a competent thriller with a clever enough premise — using a public suicide threat as a heist distraction — that keeps it engaging. The plot mechanics are fun if somewhat predictable, and the dual-storyline structure adds energy. However, the acting is largely serviceable at best, with flat performances from much of the supporting cast and a protagonist who struggles to carry the emotional weight. Cinematography is functional and makes decent use of the Manhattan skyline but doesn't stand out. The film earns points for its entertaining high-concept hook, though it doesn't execute with particular originality — the heist genre tropes are familiar. The ending deflates with a rushed, implausible resolution that undermines the tension built up throughout, leaving the surprise-ending keyword feeling more like a modest twist than a satisfying payoff.
