A slacker and a career-driven woman accidentally conceive a child after a one-night stand. As they try to make the relationship work, they must navigate the challenges of parenthood and their differences in lifestyle and maturity.
Knocked Up is a solid Apatow comedy with genuine heart and sharp improvisational energy. The plot is familiar rom-com territory elevated by honest observations about relationships and impending parenthood, earning an above-average but not exceptional score. The ensemble cast — Rogen, Heigl, Rudd, Mann — deliver naturalistic, funny performances that feel lived-in rather than showy. Cinematography is functional and unremarkable, typical of Apatow's workmanlike visual style. Novelty lands above average for its time — the R-rated, emotionally grounded approach to pregnancy comedy felt fresher in 2007 than it might now. The ending resolves predictably and a touch too neatly, settling into conventional territory rather than pushing for something more authentic.
