Career criminal Youngblood Priest wants out of the Atlanta drug scene, but as he ramps up sales, one little slip up threatens to bring the whole operation down before he can make his exit.
SuperFly (2018) is a slick, stylish remake of the 1972 blaxploitation classic, directed by Director X with a strong visual sensibility — the Atlanta setting is lush and neon-soaked, and the cinematography genuinely elevates the material. Future's soundtrack gives it a distinctive sonic identity. However, the plot is fairly by-the-numbers for a drug-exit crime thriller, hitting familiar beats without much surprise. The acting is competent but rarely exceptional — Trevor Jackson holds the screen but the supporting cast is uneven. As a remake, its Novelty is inherently limited; while it transplants the story into modern Atlanta trap culture effectively, it doesn't reinvent the formula. The ending feels rushed and somewhat unsatisfying, wrapping up conflicts too neatly without the gritty punch the story seemed to be building toward.
