The Quartile Take

A Vigilante is anchored by a raw, committed performance from Olivia Wilde that elevates the material considerably. The film takes a grounded, unglamorous approach to the vigilante premise, avoiding action-movie wish-fulfillment in favor of psychological realism around trauma and survival. However, the narrative structure is episodic and sometimes meandering, and the ending frustratingly withholds resolution in a way that feels less like artful ambiguity and more like an incomplete arc. Cinematography is functional and occasionally effective in its bleakness but unremarkable. The premise has some distinctiveness in centering female trauma and abuse counseling within the genre, but it doesn't fully transcend its framework.
