Inspired by one of the longest and bloodiest real-life events in police history, Officer Mike Chandler and a young civilian passenger find themselves under-prepared and outgunned when fate puts them squarely in the crosshairs of a daring bank heist in progress by a fearless team of highly-trained and heavily-armed men.
211 is a low-budget action thriller that squanders its 'based on true story' premise with a generic, formulaic execution. The plot threads — Afghan war veterans, bank heist, cop with family drama — never cohere meaningfully. Nicolas Cage sleepwalks through his role, and the supporting cast offers little to elevate the thin script. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable, with action sequences that lack tension or visual distinction. The film brings nothing new to the heist or cop thriller genre, recycling familiar beats without a distinctive voice. The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying, failing to deliver on the dramatic stakes it half-heartedly builds. Across the board, this is a below-average entry in an already crowded genre.
