Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the stakes are higher than ever for the now middle-aged Bill and Ted who set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it.

The Quartile Take

Bill & Ted Face the Music is a nostalgia-driven sequel that recaptures some of the charm of the originals but struggles to justify its existence narratively. The plot is thin and repetitive — the duo repeatedly visiting their future selves is a clever conceit that quickly wears out its welcome. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter slip back into their roles with genuine warmth and chemistry, which is the film's strongest asset. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable, offering nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is low: this is a by-the-numbers legacy sequel leaning heavily on callbacks and fan service rather than fresh ideas. The ending, however, delivers an earnest, feel-good payoff that honors the spirit of the franchise and lands with surprising emotional sincerity.
