Earth is peaceful following the Tournament of Power. Realizing that the universes still hold many more strong people yet to see, Goku spends all his days training to reach even greater heights. Then one day, Goku and Vegeta are faced by a Saiyan called 'Broly' who they've never seen before. The Saiyans were supposed to have been almost completely wiped out in the destruction of Planet Vegeta, so what's this one doing on Earth? This encounter between the three Saiyans who have followed completely different destinies turns into a stupendous battle, with even Frieza (back from Hell) getting caught up in the mix.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly delivers a straightforward plot that serves mainly as a vehicle for spectacular combat — the story of Broly's tragic origins adds some emotional weight but the overall narrative is thin and predictable. Voice acting is solid across the board, with expressive performances fitting the anime style. The cinematography and animation are genuinely exceptional — Naohiro Shintani and Naoki Tate's work produces some of the most fluid, kinetic, and visually inventive action sequences in anime film history, with dynamic camera work and sakuga highlights that are legitimately outstanding. Novelty is limited; while the animation craft is singular, the film is essentially a polished retelling of an existing fan-favorite character slotted into a by-the-numbers power-escalation battle structure. The ending resolves the conflict adequately but leans on a deus ex machina fusion and wraps up tidily without lasting consequence.
