E.B., the Easter Bunny's teenage son, heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. In L.A., he's taken in by Fred after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car.
Hop is a mildly charming but forgettable family comedy that blends live-action and CGI animation. The plot is formulaic and predictable, combining the slacker-finds-purpose arc with a thin Easter Bunny mythology that never fully gels. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable — James Marsden's live-action performance feels awkward opposite a CG rabbit, and the voice work is passable. The cinematography benefits from competent live-action/animation integration, which was reasonably well-executed for a studio family film. Novelty gets a modest bump for the Easter Bunny-as-rock-drummer premise and the holiday-film angle, which is at least a fresher holiday property than most, though the execution squanders the concept. The ending is saccharine and predictable, wrapping everything up neatly without any real surprise or emotional payoff.
