Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating
Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Army of the Dead blends zombie horror with heist mechanics in a Las Vegas setting, giving it a reasonably fresh genre mashup that elevates its Novelty above the average zombie film. Snyder's cinematography features his trademark shallow depth-of-field style and stylish visual flair, lending it production value above its peers. However, the plot is bloated and predictable — character motivations are thin, subplots are underdeveloped, and the story follows a very standard heist-goes-wrong trajectory. Acting is serviceable but largely forgettable; Dave Bautista carries emotional weight but the ensemble is underwritten. The ending attempts emotional payoff but falls flat given the lack of genuine character investment built throughout.
