Just Go with It (2011)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

While romancing Palmer, a much younger schoolteacher, plastic surgeon Danny Maccabee enlists his loyal assistant Katherine to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, Katherine's kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives.

The Quartile Take

Just Go with It is a fairly formulaic romantic comedy with a predictable trajectory — the elaborate ruse premise has been done before (it loosely remakes Cactus Flower), and the lies-snowballing plot doesn't offer many surprises. The acting is competent with Sandler and Aniston showing decent chemistry, and Brooklyn Decker and Nicole Kidman round out a watchable cast. Cinematography is serviceable with the Hawaii backdrop providing visual appeal but nothing distinctive. Novelty is low given the derivative romcom structure and recycled farce mechanics. The ending is telegraphed well in advance and resolves without much emotional payoff.
