A former special forces agent is trapped in a time loop and relives his death over and over again. To escape the terrible situation, he must track down those responsible and stop them.
Boss Level is a solidly entertaining time-loop action thriller that blends Groundhog Day mechanics with video-game aesthetics and Frank Grillo's charismatic lead performance. The plot is functional and engaging enough, with escalating stakes and darkly comedic beats, though it doesn't transcend its high-concept premise with particular depth. The acting is competent across the board — Grillo carries it well and Mel Gibson adds campy menace — but few performances are truly memorable. Cinematography is workmanlike action-movie fare with some kinetic energy but nothing visually distinctive. Novelty is moderate: the time-loop-meets-action premise is well-worn post-Edge of Tomorrow, but the video-game framing and sardonic tone give it some personality. The ending resolves things a bit too neatly and emotionally conveniently, undermining the darker satirical edge suggested earlier.
