Science fiction has long anticipated the rise of machine intelligence, and today a new generation of self-learning computers has begun to reshape every aspect of our lives. Will A.I. usher in an age of unprecedented potential, or prove to be our final invention?
A competent and timely documentary exploring AI ethics and existential risk, featuring a range of prominent voices from the tech world. The film covers familiar ground for those already engaged with AI discourse, but presents its arguments accessibly. Cinematography is straightforward talking-head documentary fare with little visual ambition. Acting is not applicable in the traditional sense, but interviewee presence and charisma vary. The narrative arc is serviceable but leans heavily on alarm without deep nuance. Novelty is moderate — the questions raised are important but the format and framing were already well-trodden territory by 2018.
