After an accident at the hair salon, Violet realizes she's not living life to the fullest. A soulful barber helps her put the pieces back together.
Nappily Ever After tackles themes of Black women's identity and self-worth through the lens of hair, giving it meaningful cultural resonance and a distinctive emotional core. Sanaa Lathan delivers a committed performance anchored in vulnerability. The cinematography is competent and warm without being especially distinctive. The plot follows a fairly predictable rom-com arc of self-discovery and romance, leaning on familiar beats despite its culturally specific framing. The ending is satisfying but conventional for the genre, wrapping things up a bit too neatly.
