Good Boys (2019)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

A group of young boys on the cusp of becoming teenagers embark on an epic quest to fix their broken drone before their parents get home.

The Quartile Take

Good Boys mines its central joke—tweens hilariously clueless about adult situations—for consistent laughs. The three lead child actors deliver surprisingly strong comedic performances with genuine chemistry. The plot is fairly thin and episodic, a series of escalating misadventures rather than a structured story. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable for a studio comedy. Its novelty comes from the age-specific spin on the raunchy-comedy formula (think Superbad but younger), which gives it a distinct, charming voice even if the genre framework is familiar. The ending lands emotionally with a bittersweet note about the friends growing apart, which elevates the film slightly above pure gross-out comedy.
